Action Alert: Stop Patient Identifiers

In 1998, then-Congressman Ron Paul led a successful effort to forbid the government from assigning every American a “unique patient identifier.”

The unique patient identifier, which was a key part of Hillary Clinton’s health care plan, would allow government bureaucrats, special interests, surveillance state snoops, ID thieves, and hackers to access to your medical records without your consent or even knowledge.

Dr. Paul’s ban remained in place for over twenty years, but earlier this year, the House of Representatives repealed the ban as part of the Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education appropriations bill.

And today big data companies -- the ones who work hand-in-glove with government agencies like the NSA to violate your privacy -- along with big health care companies -- the ones who worked behind the scenes to pass ObamaCare after they cut sleazy backroom deals with President Obama and Nancy Pelosi -- are ramping up efforts to pressure the Senate to follow the House’s lead and force you to adopt a unique patient identifier.

So please call your Senators at 202-224-3121 and tell them to oppose any efforts to implement a unique patient identifier.

Unless we block this scheme, government bureaucrats and special interests will be able to access your medical records simply by typing your unique patient ID into a government database.

And agencies like the NSA will be able to see all your medical records without a warrant!

The patient ID will be used to enforce “red flag” laws by allowing law enforcement to see if a gun owner ever sought counseling for any reason.

So if you were feeling blue at some point in your history over a divorce or a death in the family, the patient identifier would put your already endangered Second Amendment rights at greater risk.

The unique patient identifier will also give deep state operatives one more means of obtaining personal information to use against liberty activists who threaten the status quo.

So please call your Senators at 202-224-3121 and tell them to oppose any efforts to implement a unique patient identifier.

Dr. Paul took on this fight, not just because the unique patient identifier threatened our privacy and liberty but also because, as a doctor, he understood how the patient ID scheme undermines the very foundation of health care. . .

. . . the doctor-patient relationship.

Physicians cannot provide proper treatments unless patients are willing to share intimate details about their lives, ranging from details about their diet and exercise habits to their alcohol and drug use and more.

How honest will patients be with their doctors if they know every detail will be kept in a government database?

So please call your Senators at 202-224-3121 and tell them to oppose any efforts to implement a unique patient identifier.

And please chip in $100, $75, $50, or $25 to help Campaign for Liberty battle all infringements on your liberty and privacy.
