Campaign for Liberty Chairman Ron Paul issued the following statement regarding the passing of Bettina Bien Greaves:
“I am saddened by the death of my friend Bettina Bien Greaves. I first met Bettina in the early 70's when I became involved with the Foundation for Economic Education (FEE). Bettina attended Ludwig Von Mises’s seminar and devoted her life to promulgating Austrian Economics. She worked as a senior scholar at FEE from 1951 to 1999, where she introduced generations of students to sound economics and the philosophy of liberty.
Bettina played a key role in the Austrian-libertarian movement at a time when even so-called free-market conservatives accepted the premises of Keynsanian interventionism. Thankfully she was able to see the ideas she devoted her life to advancing become more popular than ever following the meltdown of 2008. We still have a long a way to go but we are making progress. When the day comes when it is fashionable to say “we are all Austrians now” it will in no small part be because of the work of Bettina Bien Greaves.
