House Republicans Stand with Obama to Spy on Americans

SPRINGFIELD, Virginia- Campaign for Liberty released the following statement from C4L President John Tate condemning the defeat of Representative Justin Amash’s (R-MI) amendment to the House Department of Defense Appropriations Act (H.R. 2397). Representative Amash’s amendment would have limited blanket collection of innocent Americans’ metadata by the National Security Agency.

Previously, the White House called for the amendment to be defeated.

“Today,  134 House Republicans joined President Obama to support continued spying on millions of innocent Americans by the NSA. Rather than protect the American people’s 4thAmendment rights, House Republicans stood with President Obama to protect government spying. President Obama and House Republicans claim they want an open discussion on the issue of government surveillance, but the truth is they would rather the American people be kept in the dark about its vast surveillance state.

“Now that we have Congress on the record, Campaign for Liberty will be sure to remind the American people who stood for privacy rights and who stood with President Obama and the surveillance state come election time.”
