C4L Opposes Backroom Deals in Omnibus Bill

SPRINGFIELD, Virginia- After reports that special interests are making a last-minute effort to add the “Restoration of America’s Wire Act,” S. 2159/H.R. 4103, to the omnibus spending bill, Campaign for Liberty issued the following statement from C4L President John Tate condemning such a move on legislation that would ban online gambling nationally.

“Campaign for Liberty is strongly opposed to any backroom deals that restrict Americans’ freedom, especially those seeking to appease the well-connected,” said John Tate.

“This bill, which would allow the federal government to once again trample on the sovereignty of state governments and laws, should not just be rolled into so-called 'must-pass' legislation to get it off politicians’ desks.  If Republican leadership goes along with such a plan, it will be a signal that they did not get the message the American people, who are sick of politics as usual, sent Washington in November.

“I urge C4L members, whether they gamble or not, to contact Congress and tell their elected officials to oppose any attempts to pass the ‘Restoration of America’s Wire Act’ in the lame-duck session, including by combining it with any other legislation.”
