SPRINGFIELD, Virginia- Today, Campaign for Liberty Chairman Ron Paul released the following statement after reports that House Leadership plans to remove the popular Massie-Lofgren NDAA amendment that reformed NSA spying programs from the Omnibus spending bill. The amendment passed the House in June by a vote of 293-123 and prohibits the National Security Agency from conducting warrantless searches of Americans’ electronic communications, while also denying funding for NSA and CIA efforts to install so-called “backdoors” into products to aid in surveillance.
“It is disappointing but not surprising that House Leadership would remove such a popular, bipartisan NSA reform amendment from the CR spending bill,” said Ron Paul.
“As disconnected as Congress is from the American people, Congressional Leadership is even more disconnected with the rest of Congress. Removing this amendment would leave in place unconstitutional programs that the American people want to end.
“The American people have a constitutionally protected right to privacy from intrusive government, and it is long past time to end the unconstitutional programs that greatly infringe on our lives while actually damaging our national security. I urge Campaign for Liberty members to tell their Representative to stand with the American people by opposing the removal of this important reform amendment from the CR spending bill."
