Petition to Stop the Armitage Gun Bans
To our Municipal and County Council Members
Whereas: The Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution clearly states that the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed; and
Whereas: This inalienable, individual right clearly includes the right of all law-abiding citizens to purchase and carry a gun for self-defense; and
Whereas: Requiring law-abiding citizens to ask government permission through the permit system before they can exercise their constitutional right to bear arms is a clear violation of that right; and
Whereas: Any and all ordinances and statutes at the state, county, and municipal level to restrict unlicensed carry of firearms are a direct infringement on these constitutional rights; and
Whereas: Real-life experience and extensive research both clearly demonstrate that restricting the right to bear arms in self-defense only encourages violent crime; and
Whereas: Any votes for such restrictions shall be an affirmation that such legislators are intending to endanger the lives of citizens and impede their access to public spaces and participation in the democratic process;
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, to protect liberty and the right of individuals to defend themselves, and protect citizen access and participation in the democratic process of our republic, we urge you to pass no ordinances, statutes or laws relating to Delaware State House Bills 192 and 201 of the 148th General Assembly.
