Politicians in West Virginia are desperate to create this money-grab on the backs of our motorists. Rather than admitting speed cameras are merely a way for the state government to cash in on unsuspecting citizens and visitors, State Delegate John Overington is once again pushing speed ‘scameras’ in our state.
Please sign the petition below, and let the state of West Virginia and Delegate Overington know we will accept no speed cameras in our state.
Whereas: Speed cameras are a direct violation of rights protected by the 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 14th Amendments to the U.S. Constitution; and
Whereas: Evidence shows that speed cameras would be used to generate funds and not to promote safety, as claimed by state legislators; and
Whereas: The state of West Virginia continues to seek avenues to fund their out-of-control spending rather than make necessary cuts; and
Whereas: Speed cameras are detrimental to safety, because they are placed in dangerous locations where signal timing has been altered to increase revenues; and
Whereas: Studies have shown that the use of speed cameras increases accidents, contradicting the claims made by the private companies who operate them.
Therefore, be it resolved that we, the undersigned, demand you stand against the use of Unmanned Traffic Control Devices used to generate tickets, specifically speed cameras, with no exceptions.
