Dear Supporter,
Atlanta Falcons Owner Arthur Blank has joined forces with Mayor Kasim Reed and the Atlanta City Council to devote hundreds of millions of tax dollars to demolish a perfectly good Georgia Dome and then build an unnecessary new stadium. This is blatant crony capitalism and Atlanta taxpayers are being victimized to line the pockets of a sports billionaire.

Stop Corporate Welfare in Atlanta Petition to My City Council Members and the Mayor
WHEREAS: The proper role of government in a free society is protection of citizens from theft, force, and fraud; and WHEREAS: Abusing Atlanta tax dollars to pay for a stadium we don’t need constitutes corporate welfare; and WHEREAS: The Georgia Dome just proved its worth by successfully hosting one of the nation’s largest sporting events - The NCAA Final Four; and WHEREAS: The Mayor and City Council participated in this Corporate Welfare despite a wide body of economic research showing that new stadiums have little (and even negative) impact on the local economy; and WHEREAS: Money spent on a stadium is money that could otherwise be spent on schools, roads, and public safety thereby allowing us to lower taxes on hospital beds; and WHEREAS: Direct taxpayer support of a private business is an unconstitutional government undertaking. THEREFORE: We citizens of Atlanta and its surrounding counties DEMAND that the members of the Atlanta City Council and the Mayor put an end to their corporate welfare schemes and stop abusing our tax dollars. |
