Lexington Town Council has voted to give preliminary approval to a new tax on prepared food. They want to use the tax to raise $13.6 million to build two new traffic circles and to make part of Highway 6 in downtown Lexington a one-way street.
The final vote will be on September 8. If you agree that raising taxes is a bad idea, please sign the petition below, and then get your friends and family to do the same!

Stop the Lexington Prepared Food Tax Increase
Whereas: Town Council should be the guardian of taxpayers money; and
Whereas: Town Council should be finding ways to reduce spending; and
Whereas: A new tax is the worst thing for our fragile economy; and
Whereas: A higher sales tax will drive business out of town; and
Whereas: Traffic circles and one-way streets are not what Lexington needs and the council admits these roads are the responsibility of the county and state; and
Whereas: The state has unexpectedly refunded $8.5 million to the county for improving state roads.
