As our country struggles to take back our health freedom from politicians and beauracrats, Michigan continues its march towards total government-run health care. ObamaCare directs the states to establish Health Insurance Exchanges by the year 2014, and the federal government has already sent hundreds of millions of dollars to the states for implementation. Accepting the funds and creating state-run exchanges requires that the state relinquish sovereignty over all health care-related decisions to the federal government. Additionally, the federal government needs Michigan to expand Medicaid in order for ObamaCare to work. The expansion of Medicaid will add hundreds of thousands of new people to the roles and drastically increase the costs of the program. We are being told that a heavily indebted, nearly-broke, federal government will pay for it. Yet, the Obama administration has already signaled that they are considering reducing the amount the federal government will pay. Even if we tried to deny that federal money was not coming out of our pockets, the Snyder administration would have us believe that we can count on the federal government to cover these costs from now until forever. The rights of the citizens of our great state should be protected by our lawmakers, and they should guard our sovereignty jealously. Instead, they are bowing to the whims of a federal government clearly out of control, and they are working towards complying with an expensive and unconstitutional law that will likely not survive the year. Petition to Stop Establishment of ObamaCare State Insurance Exchange Whereas: The Tenth Amendment of the Constitution of the United States reads as follows: "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."; and Whereas: The Tenth Amendment defines the total scope of federal power as being that specifically granted by the Constitution of the United States and no more; and Whereas: The scope of power defined by the Tenth Amendment means that the federal government was created by the states specifically to be an agent of the states; and Whereas: ObamaCare grossly oversteps the powers granted to the United States by the Constitution; and Whereas: The Supreme Court has ruled that the states do not have to expand Medicaid. Whereas: Our state has accepted federal Early Innovator Grant funds for the express purpose of establishing a state-run Health Insurance Exchange under the dictates of ObamaCare; and Whereas: The Obama administration is trying to bribe Michigan with an additional $30.9 million in taxpayer dollars to establish the exchange; and Whereas: Expansion of Medicaid will be a huge increase in government and taxes; and Whereas: Implementing state Insurance Exchanges and accepting federal Early Innovator Grant funds requires that our state hand over our authority on health care issues to the federal government. Therefore, be it resolved that we, the undersigned, demand that all efforts to implement ObamaCare by way of establishing a state Health Insurance Exchange and expanding Medicaid be halted right away. Be it further resolved that we, the undersigned, demand that all federal Early Innovator Grant funds be returned immediately. |
