Petition to Enact the Texas Constitutional Carry Bill
To my State Legislators and the Governor of Texas
Whereas: The Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution clearly states that the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed; and
Whereas: This inalienable, individual right clearly includes the right of all law-abiding citizens to purchase and carry a gun for self-defense; and
Whereas: Requiring law-abiding citizens to ask government permission through the permit system before they can exercise their constitutional right to bear arms is a clear violation of that right; and
Whereas: Real-life experience and extensive research both clearly demonstrate that restricting the right to bear arms in self-defense only encourages violent crime; and
Whereas: Constitutional Carry would allow every law-abiding Texas citizen the freedom to carry a gun to protect themselves and their families without needless delays and fees.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, to protect liberty and the right of individuals to defend themselves and their families, we urge you to eliminate all fees and penalties on Texas citizens, who are simply exercising their Second Amendment rights, and both cosponsor and seek roll call votes on the Texas Constitutional Carry bill.
Be it further resolved that we, the undersigned, demand a continuation of our concealed carry permitting system, which will allow reciprocity for those wanting to comply with other states' concealed carry laws.
Be it further resolved, we urge you to ensure that the Texas Constitutional Carry bill includes all provisions for a Texas Constitutional Amendment, to repeal the portion of Section 23 of the Texas Constitution: "but the Legislature shall have power, by law, to regulate the wearing of arms, with a view to prevent crime."
