Campaign for Liberty members in Virginia should check out the Save the Farmer Family Rally this Thursday. The rally will be held in support of HB 1430, the Boneta Bill, which protects the property rights of Virginia farmers to conduct business without being harassed by state or local bureaucrats. The bill is named for Martha Boneta, a small organic farmer whose business is being jeopardized by local authorities because she threw an unauthorized birthday party for eight ten-year-old girls.
HB 1430 has already passed the Virginia House of Delegates. However, the version that passed the House had a "re-enactment" clause which requires the bill be re-enacted in 2014! This obviously gives the anti-property, anti-small business special interests time to rewrite the law to ensure it does not protect the property rights of small farmers like Martha Boneta. It is therefore important that supporters of private property make a strong showing on Thursday in support of passing a clean version of HB 1430.
