This Week in Congress Wrap Up

The House passed H.R. 1865, the omnibus containing the Labor-Health and Human Services-Education, Agriculture, Energy and Water Development, Interior-Environment, Legislative Branch, Military Construction-Veterans Affairs, State-Foreign Operations, and Transportation-Housing and Urban Development appropriations bills by a vote of 297-120. 218 Democrats voted for the bill and 79 Republicans voted yes. The Senate passed H.R. 1865 by a vote of 71-23. You can see that vote here.

Then the House passed H.R.1158, consisting of the Defense, Commerce-Justice-Science, Financial Services and General Government, and Homeland Security appropriations. The bill passed by a vote of 280-138.150 Democrats voted for it while 130 Republicans voted for it. You can see that vote here.

The Senate passed H.R. 1158 by a vote of 76-17. You can see the vote here.

The House also voted on H.R. 5377, which limited the 2017 tax reform limitations on state and local tax deductibility and raises rates on top bracket taxpayers. Five Republicans — Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01), John, Katko (NY-24), Peter King (NY-02), Tom Reed (NY-23), and Chris Smith (NJ-04) — voted with 213 Democrats for this bill. You can see that vote here.

The House also passed the anti-trade trade deal with Mexico and Canada that strengthens environment and labor “protections” at the expense of real free trade and free markets. The vote was 385-41. 38 democrats joined Republicans Thomas Massie (KY-04) and Ted Yoho (FL-03) and Independent Justin Amash (MI-03) in voting no. You can see that vote here.

On Monday, the Senate passed the 2020 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). Eight Senators voted no — Mike Braun (R-IN), Mike Enzi (R-WY), Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), Mike Lee (R-UT), Ed Markey (D-MA), Jeff Merkley (D-OR), Rand Paul (R-KY), and Ron Wyden (D-OR). You can see that vote here.
