Michael Bloomberg: Racism in Defense of Gun Control is no vice

Former New York City Mayor and anti-gun fanatic Michael Bloomberg recently suggested that "Cities need to get guns out of … hands” of persons who are “male, minority, and between the ages of 15 and 25.” So Bloomberg thinks that individuals should be denied their Second Amendment rights because of their sex, age, and race? Because that will not lead to racial profiling or leave law-abiding young males defenseless against criminals who, because they are criminals, do not obey gun laws.

This may be the most offensive and ignorant statement made by a politician in my lifetime, and the fact that it appears to be receiving little or no attention is shameful, especially considering how so many neoconservative and liberal media outlets are eager to use phony cries of racism to discredit libertarians and constitutional conservatives. I guess racism in the defense of gun control is no vice.

Mayor Bloomberg should have a conversation with rapper Ice-T who in July called gun rights civil rights. Or perhaps the Mayor should read this piece by Jack Hunter on the role the Second Amendment played in the civil rights movement. Mayor Bloomberg would be quite interested to learn of the racist origins of gun control laws, including the Gun Control Act of 1968.
