I just finished an audio guided meditative session and I found myself laughing at the guide’s description of domesticated dogs as “looking for handouts”. But, it really isn’t so ridiculous. Every domesticated species is doomed for failure because their survival is dependent on others to do for them what they are no longer able to do for themselves due to their domestication, whether that be hunting down some food or fending off a predator that has gotten too close to the pack. Domestication is what ruins us and keeps us from being our true selves. And we impose the rules of domestication upon each other like some group of suicidal masochists who don’t want anyone to get out of this alive. We recognize when someone is “misbehaving” and cast them out for not following "the rules". If we do not discontinue this practice and shed our domestication, we are set for extinction.
