In a recent article entitled " Sen. Franken and Conservative Unite to Fight Indefinate Detention", Tea Party favorite Rep. Jeff Landry (R-La.)is quoted as saying
"I have a commitment from the chairman," Landry said. "If he gives us the hearing he's promised, and we go through the regular legislative procedure, we could get this whole thing resolved in under 60 days."
He was speaking of House Armed Services Committee Chairman Buck McKeon (R-Calif.), a strong proponent of the NDAA. Tick Tock.... Time is running out. Will the Chairman keep to his word and will Rep. Landry get his hearing? If so, they should include Bruce Fein, Constitutional Scholar as one of their witnesses. He can explain to the committee why the NDAA detention provisions are unconstitutional, anti-liberal (in the classical sense) and counter-productive in the U.S. efforts against Al Queda. He can also explain that the Constitution protects 'persons' in this case and not just 'citizens' which would mean all people in the United States.
