Throw Farmers in Jail?

Despite objections inside and outside the courtroom, a farmer was fingerprinted, photographed and booked in the basement of the Sauk County Courthouse in Baraboo.

What was his crime?

Selling raw milk to those who wanted it.

Because of these “horrible crimes”, Amish raw milk farmer Vernon Hershberger faces maximum penalties of $13,000 in fines or 2 1/2 years in jail (read the story here).

How crazy is that?  Farmers can be thrown in jail for simply selling willing customers milk from a cow.

Raw milk comes straight from the cow and is believed by many to have qualities that are lost in pasteurized milk (the kind you buy in the store).

What this really comes down to is individual rights.  Do you own your body or does the government?  Do you own your property or does the government?

If you own your body and your property then the government has no right to tell you what you can and cannot consume.  If you own your property then the government has no right to tell you what you can or cannot sell on your own property to willing consumers.

The good news is that there is a bill in the legislature that would solve this issue right now.  Click here to read SB108.

But few legislators have signed on to SB108 which would legalize raw milk in Wisconsin.

Currently only Senators Grothman, Darling, S. Fitzgerald, Galloway, Hansen, Holperin, Kapanke, Lasee are sponsors and Representatives Pridemore, Danou, Clark, Kooyenga, Krug, Thiesfeldt and Tiffany are co-sponsors.

So why are most assembly representatives delaying and criminalizing farmers

Are they bowing down to the powerful dairy lobby?

You and I need to step up the pressure on the rest of the assembly to co-sponsor the “Raw Milk bill” so that farmers can be free to sell their products as they see fit

Click here to contact your assembly representative right now and tell them to co-sponsor SB108 and legalize raw milk.  Tell them raw milk must be legalized because farmers should not be criminalized and consumers should have a right to choose.

People should have the right to choose what they consume.  If they decide to drink raw milk and eat natural foods, that should be their choice--NOT the government's.

P.S. Click here to contact your representative right now and demand that they co-sponsor SB108 and legalize raw milk.  Why is the Wisconsin government afraid of all-natural milk?  Why do they want to criminalize farmers for simply selling milk from a cow?
