Campaign for Liberty Chairman Ron Paul issued the following statement opposing the nomination of anti-gun fanatic David Chipman to head the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF):
“Any senator who supports the right to keep and bear arms must oppose David Chipman’s nomination to head the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms. Chipman’s history of aggressive advocacy of gun control suggests that if he is confirmed, the ATF will become an even greater menace to the rights of law-abiding gun owners.
“If his advocacy of gun control were not enough to disqualify Chipman, senators should also consider his involvement in the ATF’s most shameful moment: the 1993 massacre of innocent Americans -- including children -- at the Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas. The ATF used CS tear gas against the Branch Davidians. Use of CS tear gas is prohibited under an international treaty the U.S. signed just months before the ATF raided the Branch Davidian compound. Chipman continues to defend -- and spread lies -- about that incident. What new atrocities would Chipman sign off on and defend if he were put in charge of ATF?
“Campaign for Liberty will be mobilizing pro-liberty Americans to oppose the nomination of anti-Second Amendment fanatic David Chipman to head the ATF.”
